iMovie

Introduction

iMovie is Apple’s video editing software that allows people to create, edit, and manage their own trailers/teasers, movies, and videos.

Why use it?

  • Import and edit video clips
  • Use templates and themes to create your own trailers and movies
  • Add special effects and sound to polish and give a professional-feel to your videos
Things You'll Need
  • iMovie (10.1.2 is the most recent version) for Mac and iOS (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch)

  • An Internet connection.

Steps

    Click on download iMovie for Mac.

    Launch the application and complete the installation steps when prompted.

    *If you already have an Apple, you should already have iMovie built-in. Go to the spotlight spotlightat the top right of your Mac and search iMovie.

    You can either Import/Create a video. To import a video, click Media at the top center media, projects, theatre options and click the arrow pointing down imovie - down arrowOR to create a new video, click the plus sign and choose whether you want to create a Movie, or Trailer.

    If creating a new video, choose a theme, or no theme. Click on Create at the bottom of the page. Name your project.

    Choose where you want to place and save your video.

    Go to All Projects and select your video.

    You will now have a new movie project, but your timeline will be empty.

    Editing and Adding Effects

    In your Events’ window, you can scroll your mouse over the clip to see a live preview in the top-right window.

    Select a clip in the Event window to highlight a section of your video.

    Add any of the following effects to your movie.  Click on the links for an overview from Apple’s Support site for special effects:

    Add: clips, titles, transitions, audio effects.
