Osmo

Introduction

Osmo includes a series of apps along with peripherals to help teach children, 5-12, programming, shapes, physics, numbers, and words.

Why use it?

  • The apps for the iPad are free.
  • The activities are child friendly.
  • Gamification of education.
Things You'll Need
  • iPad (2, 3, 4, Mini, Air, Air 2, 9.7 inch Pro)

  • Osmo Game System (stand and camera mirror)

  • Osmo games (Masterpiece and Newton just require the app, game system, paper and pen)

  • An internet connection
Steps
  1. 1

Purchase a kit from the Osmo website. All of the kits will include the Game System in addition to one or more sets of game pieces.

  2. 2

Download the free apps for iPad from the App Store. These include: Masterpiece, Tangram, Osmo Numbers, Words, Newton, and Osmo Coding.

  3. 3

Place the iPad in the stand and place the mirror directly on top of the iPad above the camera location.

  4. 4

Open up one of the games and get the right game pieces (if needed) for that game.

  5. 5

Regardless of the game, you will be placing the game pieces in front of the camera so the game (using the mirror) can read them.

Tips
  • You can set up multiple accounts within the same app, allowing for multiple players to use the same device at different times. This will let players advance separately in games that have a level system, such as Osmo Coding and Tangram.

Warnings
  • Game pieces, such as the tiles for Words and Osmo Coding, are easily lost. Make sure to keep an eye on them and that all pieces are returned to the kit when done.
